The process to set up the UE4 plugin is exactly the same as it is in Windows, except for the path where you have to install the plugin. The Installation folder must be the Plugins folder within the UE4 directory. In Mac, it is Macintosh HD\Users\Shared\Epic Games\UE_4.24\Engine\Plugins
An example screenshot is shown below.
How to install the Livelink
Close Unreal Engine (if running).
In Bridge, go to the Export Settings of any downloaded asset and select the Export To option to "Unreal". Then click on the Download button (as shown below):
It will take a moment to download. In the process, the screen will show the following prompt (as shown by the red arrow)
Once the download is complete, another prompt will appear stating that the plugin has downloaded successfully. The Export Settings tab will display the remaining options as well. Ensure to set the Engine Version as "4.24". Then, click on the folder icon in the Installation Folder attribute.
Enter the default path for installing the Mac plugin, i.e. Users\Shared\Epic Games\UE_4.24\Engine\Plugins, as shown below:
As soon as you click on the Select Folder button, the Livelink will begin to install in your UE4.24 directory and once complete, it shall display the below window.
Now open UE4.24. Ensure that you're running version 4.24 and not any other. Also, run a New Project.
At this point, the Livelink button is visible now in the case of Windows OS. On Mac OS, it needs to be manually enabled.
- Go to Edit > Plugins.
- In the Installed section within the Plugins window, locate the Megascans plugin and check the Enabled box (as shown below).
Once you have enabled the checkbox, restarting Unreal Engine is necessary. Close Unreal Engine and open it again. Then the MS plugin button will be visible (as shown below in red highlight).
Now open UE4.24. Ensure that you're running version 4.24 and not any other. Also, run a New Project. You will notice that the Livelink icon is visible now, as shown above. Click on the Megascans button to start the Livelink, and you'll be faced with the following:
Notice the boxes that have been checked. Please ensure to keep them checked on your end as well.
Exporting an asset
Back in Bridge, select any downloaded asset to export. In the Export Settings of this asset, you may keep the Project Folder blank. Export the asset. Since UE4.24 will be running in parallel along with the Livelink, the connection will automatically be established.
The exported asset will appear in UE4.24, as shown below. Notice that the Livelink has created a Megascan folder and its sub-folders. That is where it exports the assets to.
The material has been applied onto the plane and it is now visible in the viewport.
