[Style Swap] Moby Dick
Hi guys,
after thinking about what I could do for this contest I decided to make a Moby Dick material.
I don't won't to make any generic like the 1000st brick wall material or useless - but cool - highly detailed scenery, because that's not the purpose of mixer.
I also want to embrace the new features of mixer like the scatter modifier to get the most of it.
As a environment artist I thought about making a terrain material, but for this I would need Gaea and this is a thrid party tool - so this is no option. Just making a surface? Nah. I want something with a story!
So long story short. I want to make a whale skin material with a sticky harpoon in the flesh. Thats for the realsitic part - for the stylized, as you see a lot in the moby dick books, a etching version of it. That way I have even between the stylized and realsitic version some logicial bound and a storytelling.

Hi Jack,
thanks for your help and tip :)
... but actually I have a tough time doing this texture because I thought the mask system inside mixer has pen pressure but actually that's not the case. I talked to Jin and he told me, that this feature is already available but only in-house and it's not released. It was just shown for the gdc demo ... soooo :D
But I hope I will find a way to get something done ^^ -
Okay, in the end it becomes something different, but here we are.
It was real fun to accomplish something like that in mixer and I can't wait to follow the development of mixer. Here and there some features are lacking like a proper pen sensitivity, but overall it's even yet in the beta a pretty powerful program. Anyway - long story short. Here is my entry:// Moby Dick

Thanks guys, really appreciate it!
Maybe it's not what you usally get by using mixer, but I really wanted to push the boundaries of this tool.
Jin, we already talked about, the lack of pen pressure was at the time being a bit of a hassle, but yeah. Even with these restrictions it was possible to get the desired look.
I really enjoyed this challenge :)
