Hi! We are glad you are enjoying Mixer and we are excited to show you our upcoming Beta releases full of improvements and new features.

    1. You have two options to custom import images in general but do note that we plan to add more features in the future:

      Option 1:

      Option 2:

    2. I do not quite understand this one. Why do you need to copy it? To have it appear in the Mixer browsing asset tab / Bridge?

    Cheers,
    Jin

Hello, and thank you for the answer!

Ooh that's good to know, so I can load custom diffuse, / gloss / etc. textures by using a paint layer? That is useful, thank you! But why no normal? Or is this layer not meant to be used with my own materials?

Also, if I have my own Decal textures, for examples I scanned one myself and want to use it in Mixer, is there a way we can import Decals? In the Import Menu it just says "Surface", and it doesn't allow me to specify an Opacity map. And once I import it, it exists only in the Surfaces section (which makes sense because "Surface" is the only option). But I guess there's no way to import my own Decals currently then!

About the second question: Yes. I need to select a material from the Local Library tab in Mixer so that I can use a Material in Mixer, right? I noticed that, when I import my own custom surface using the Import Surface Option, that it creates a copy of all the textures that I selected in the import window, and puts them into the library directory I set up.
Sorry if my explanation sounded a bit all over the place. I didn't mean that I have to copy them myself - I meant that the textures, that are not megascans ones, like my own materials I bought elsewhere or made myself, that Mixer copies them into the library upon import. I don't want that. Basically I want to use my own textures, but just being referenced by mixer, so that I don't have duplicate materials floating in the library and in my other Folder structures elsewhere on my computer. And thus, i was wondering, if there was a workaround to not have Mixer copy the textures over into the library, but just use the exact ones I select on my hard drive.

I hope this makes more sense! I apologize for any confusion!

    Thank you for the answer!

    Hi!

    1. You can use Paint Layer or any other import texture options the way you want! Mixer works very well with Megascans due to the tight integration with Megascans but you can use external textures too.

    2. The normal is auto generated by Mixer, for the moment, there is no need for adding an import normal map option.

    3. Decals is not fully supported for the moment, but this is on the roadmap (to do list)!
    4. Regarding Mixer doing a copy, I do not remember if this is on our roadmap, I'll have to check. But you are free to make a feature request here if you'd like to!

Let me know if you have any further questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

    Cheers,
    Jin

Adding a new comment: I found this little workaround. Try and see if it works for you!
