Future of Mixer and how it will compare to Substance

Hello! Mixer is becoming free, there will be no subscription! Same as for Quixel Bridge. The only left subscription is Megascans for non-UE4 users ("individuals" context).

Our next (very!) big update of Quixel Mixer will include 3D mesh painting and a lot of additional features, improved UI and more. We do not have any public roadmap, perhaps in the future! That said, we do have more painting-texturing features planned for 2020.

Let me know if you have any questions I'm able to answer, I would be happy to do so!

    Cheers,
    Jin

Do you have plans on releasing any feature videos here in the near future? Mixer has tons of potential, but right now, there isn't that much info out there for it to give us all an idea of what exactly to look forward to. Other than that promising 30 seconds you showed off during the Epic promo, there hasn't been any news on it for a few months now.

Hi Jin Thanks for providing some information. Mixer and Bridge being free while megascans are paid for non-Unreal users seem super fair to me. Any plans for single payment texture packs? I'd totally pay for texture packs if it means I can use Mixer/bridge for free. Painting on meshes also sounds like a great feature and will be very helpful.

I also agree with Renzatic's point about tutorials. Having up to date documentation and responsiveness(like you're doing right now) is going to be key for getting people to jump ship. Right now, what I really like about Mixer is having the online texture libraries easily available right in the app, that to me is a killer feature. One thing that's is making it a little hard for me though is the layer and mask stack. Right now, it's pretty easy to lose track of what you did, maybe there could some more UI designs to help you read a stack of layers/masks better. I know Substance Designer uses nodes, which is helpful because you can easily see the state of your project at any given moment. Perhaps Mixer can also make it easier to keep track of your mix in some way.

    Keep up the great work!

Renzatic  of course! We always do make a video for each releases containing new features! Definitely what we plan to do, and certainly more than just one video.

We cannot provide a documentation at this stage because our development of Mixer is still in progress, and many things can change. Once the core of Mixer and the primiaries features will be set for good, we will start publishing the documentation online! Except it to happen in 2020.

Thanks to everyone for your interest and feedback!
