Hi! As we are planning to bring Suite features into Mixer, I (personally) do not think making Suite free will help you because there will be no development and technical/customer support. You will basically get a possibly "broken gift" if I may say!

Quixel Suite will soon become unavailable and we are going to release a new udpate of Mixer very soon that will make him closer to Suite than ever before (and better than Suite!).

    Hold on!

Based on our internal builds, I can tell that it will be superior to Suite O'Sil7er
glmr: No ETA and they won't be any date of announcement. That said, we are doing our best to release it as soon as it's possible!

For your information, we've already implemented 3D Painting features but also adding more features and improving stability/performance.

    Stay tuned!

    Hi Nghia59,

The decision to shut down the Suite was made quite a while ago - it's simply not being developed further, and any current support for it only comes from the knowledge I have regarding the toolset. Mixer should be able to replace almost every non-vector ability that NDO had. If there's demand for it, I'll gladly create some written tutorials for users who would like to know how to work with Mixer coming from a Suite background.

Quixel SUITE was powerful in combination with Photoshop. SUITE have more opportunities than Substance Painter. Let's hope that you can create next Mixer not inferior to SUITE.

Don't forget to show some love to users like myself who've been using Suite for years. I got my licenses years ago and I still use Suite at least 2-3 times a week. Would be nice to see something offered to those of us who purchased Suite back then and are still here today as it's being fading out for something better and more accessible. After finding out the news of it not being updated anymore I can't help but think that maybe you guys should update it one last time to make it a universal plugin for other highly used programs. It's nice that megascans is free to users of UE4 but from what I can tell it's still basically the same amount of free materials offered to everyone else. Granted I am a hobbyist who's self taught and only use the free versions of UE4 and Megascans and I can speak from experience when I say that paying the monthly fee for it does offer more in terms of the Quixel Subscription at least. I was honestly let down when I saw the announcement that Quixel and Epic partnered up, not because of that fact in general (thank you for not partnering with EA, even though they don't offer a game engine, etc. lol) It's just when I saw that "Megascans are now free to everyone through UE4" I thought there would be a bigger selection. Maybe it's because I am browsing the scans directly from the Quixel website and not via UE4?

Hello Sparowe! Thank you for your comment but I'm not sure I understand everything correctly!

    • make it a universal plugin for other highly used programs
      > I do not understand this part. The plugin (Suite, including DDO, NDO and 3DO) has been made exclusively for Photoshop. You can read here why we are replacing Suite by Mixer: https://quixel.com/blog/2019/1/30/the-year-of-mixer
    • I thought there would be a bigger selection.
      > Selection of assets? We do not hide assets, the entire library is public and we've reached the milestone of 10,000 assets (ten thousands!!!) and we add new assets on a weekly basis.

Quixel Mixer will be free and replacing Suite entirely by being way better at what NDO and DDO are used for.

If I misunderstood you, let me know! And if you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them!

    Best,
    Jin

Hi Jin (Tech Artist & Moderator)

Glad to hear that Mixer will bring back some Quixel Suite features.

One of the greatest things about Ndo was the ability to rely on Photoshop precision and tools in the creation process, in combination to the neat options available to shape the normals.

This workflow allowed the small company i'm working for to skip the time consuming hiPoly part, and thus produce more (or finish at all ^^).

By saying that Mixer will be better than Suite, do You mean that photoshop stuff like vector shapes, bezier curves or even working on a flat UV space with snapping grids, nudge and so on will be inplemented ?

Seeing the nice Ndo shaping options back would be so good !

    Thank You

    Hi Hanbolo,

Mixer doesn't support vectors or beziers currently. You can create heightmaps in your preferred 2D editing tool and load them into Mixer to work with them as displacement data which drives the normal map for your current project.

    Hm, i see.

Will there be more options, like in Ndo, regarding how you can 'shape' the height datas ?

    Cheers

    Hey guys,

TBH, I think its a really terrible idea to just outright kill the Quixel Suite because currently Mixer is really good for environment texturing but it really isn't good for optimized character creation.  There are a bunch of tools coupled with Photoshop that makes is extremely powerful and flexible.

It's also killing a lot of established pipelines.  Can you guys at least consider keeping it alive for pay but just running with no new features at some reasonable price point?  Right now there is no reliable 2D normal mapper available on the market if you remove the plugin.

What's the ETA for a post beta launch of Mixer?  I have guys onboarding at my company throughout this year and Mixer is not fully ready for deployment yet.

We can't give ETAs for software that's being developed, unfortunately.

O'Sil7er I can't speculate on features of Mixer publicly. Please create new threads for questions unrelated to the OP.
