    Hello gnomebottom,

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us. The issue occurring appears to be caused by the lack of material assigned to the static mesh. When the material is applied, the Opacity texture creates transparent parts of the mesh which will remove the "blocky" appearance of the foliage.

Once you've imported a foliage asset to UE5 Early Access, you'll have a new material called M_MS_Foliage_Material. In the material editor, you'll notice that the Red Channel of your ORT ("O" being Opacity) texture goes to a multiply node, and then to the Opacity Mask input of the result node in the material. As shown in my screenshot below.

If this is not the case, then the master material is not working as expected and needs to be rebuilt. For more information on how to do that, please reach out to our support team directly by creating a ticket via the link, here.

If your master material is connected properly, and yet your mesh is still untextured, you may need to manually assign the instance of this material to your Static Mesh. To do this, open your static-mesh by double-clicking on it (blue outlines) and then select the material instance and assign it to your mesh using the small arrow button next to the material slot (green outlines.)

While this isn't the ideal workflow, and material instances should be assigned by the plugin automatically, we appreciate the report of this issue within the Early Access version of Unreal Engine 5. Reports of this nature help us to identify and resolve issues before the full commercial release of UE5 in the future.

If the issue persists once the material instance has been assigned to the static meshes, please reach out to support directly!
