metahuman_rl.dna issue - losing connection to mesh

Hi, I’m using metahuman together with maya 2020. I have a problem where the mesh loses connection to the control board- As in I move the controls and see no changes on the mesh.
Here are the steps that result in the issue:

download metahuman character
export to maya
save as new file in another location (everything works fine in maya)
close and move the maya file to another folder
open again, now the control board no longer influences the mesh?

I think it’s something to do with the _rl.dna file, as the original maya file (which hasn’t moved) also loses the connection between the control board… How can I fix the controls?
