Quality of life improvment suggestions.
AnsweredAll of these problems stem from my awful download speeds and unreliable internet. My internet speed is 4.5Mbps. and very frequently will drop packets for a couple of seconds at a time. Sometimes it will even go out for a minute or so at a time. It goes out even more often while downloading something.
Problem 1:
When trying to download assets from megascans if my internet connection drops it will freeze the download and not continue.
Solution:
I am not entirely sure what the problem is that causes this but I would suggest adding some sort of check to make sure the download is still going and if there was a fail see if it can be continued. This probably isn't a large problem for many people with good internet speeds, but for me who has slow speeds downloading a 3 GB file could take quite a bit of time which makes it even more disappointing when it's almost done, fails, and can't be continued.
Problem 2:
This problem stems from the previous one. In the UE5 editor bridge, when you have multiple downloads queued (greater than 3 I think) and the downloads fail, the failed downloads stay in the queue not downloading blocking the other queued items from beginning their download.
Solution:
Not sure, I guess the previous solution would help this too.
Suggestion 1:
Download speed control. When downloading something on my internet speed it can easily use all the available bandwidth and begin causing drops in my connection which can lead to my other stated problems. It also just makes doing anything while an asset is downloading very slow. Watch a show or youtube video? good luck.
Suggestion 2:
Add exporting to UE5 in the standalone app. I could just be wrong but it doesn't seem like that is supported.
The reason that is important to me is, right now I have to leave the UE5 editor open for long periods of time to download assets which uses a lot of power for no reason to render the scene and stuff. There might be a workaround to that I'm not sure, I haven't done much testing on that. Also if while you are downloading assets and have a large queue and the editor crashes for any reason the queue will be cleared and the progress on the current downloads will be lost.
Suggestion 3:
Make it more convenient to download large batches of assets. As it is right now you have to click each individual asset and click download then wait for the download. It would be nice if I could download every asset in let's say the 3D Assets>Food>Baked Goods in one click instead of clicking each one queuing them and possibly having all that time queuing the items be lost if the UE5 editor crashes, clearing my queue.
