Hello testahe, I'd be happy to clarify a few things for you!

First, Bridge and Mixer are completely free pieces of software. You can download each of them respectively here, and here.
To clarify - Bridge & Mixer can be used for free without Megascans assets, the software and the assets are not mutually exclusive. In Bridge, you can import your own custom models, materials, decals, etc., and export them to the app of your choosing using our free plugins. With Mixer, you're able to texture assets of your own making with your own textures or our provided Smart Materials that ship with Mixer, free of charge.

However, Megascan assets require a license to use, such as Personal, Indie, Studio, or Unreal Unlimited. Each of which has its own criteria based on the number of users and the annual revenue of the license holder.

    For example;

    Personal Plan
You qualify for a personal plan only if you are an individual and either (i) use Megascans Content only for your personal purposes and not for any business or other commercial purpose or (ii) generate less than $100,000 USD in annual gross revenue. For purposes of this calculation, revenue includes any advances received or other funds raised. However, individuals who start on a personal plan will not be ineligible for the plan unless and until they generate more than $100,000 USD in annual gross revenue for two consecutive years.

    Indie Plan
You qualify for an indie plan only if you, together with any controlling entity and other entities under common control with you, (i) generate less than $2,000,000 USD per year in annual gross revenue and (ii) are not affiliated with or funded by a publisher owned or controlled studio. For purposes of this calculation revenue includes any advances received or other funds raised.

    Unreal Unlimited
Megascans Content that you acquire from Epic while your account is enrolled in an Unreal Engine plan may only be used and shared as UE-Only Content.

You qualify for an Unreal Engine plan if you have entered into an Unreal Engine End User License Agreement with Epic that is still active and valid.

For Studio plans, you'll need to reach out to Quixel support directly so that we may further discuss the needs of your studio.

To address your latter point, you can sign up for a one-time 30-day free trial for Megascans to see if they're a fit for your projects. Please note that this trial is for Megascans, not Bridge or Mixer, and cannot be canceled once started. Once your free trial has ended it will not automatically convert to a subscription, however, you're free to subscribe to any of our plans whenever you'd like from our website.

I will relay this to my colleagues, should make for a small slice of adoption.

    Kind regards,

    Hello!

Apologies for reviving an old thread but I just wanted to ask for a clarification from Ian - Product Support Specialist

When you say "provided smart materials" are you referring to the libraries that can be downloaded during install or are those part of Megascans non-commercial assets and are therefore excluded? The smart materials libraries are quite substantial and would be nice to make use of them if possible, understandable if not, of course.

If my question requires further explaining, please let me know.

    Many thanks!

Thanks for asking for clarification! When I referred to the Smart Material Library, I was referring to the libraries that can be added during the installation of Quixel Mixer. Those are free to use, even commercially.
